    Star Trek Review

I meant to put this up last week but I didn't get around to it, my apologies to the 2 to 3 people who read this blog and aren't related to us. I just got back from seeing Star Trek for the second time and I liked it just as much. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's best defined as a reboot and not a prequel. The world created by the filmmakers pays homage and is respectful to Trek lore, but they make it clear that they are free of continuity and reinventing the series. As much as I loved this film (and I did love it) it has left me wanting more, and hopefully at some point in the future there will be a new Trek series with this cast. Regarding the cast, a superb job was done by all of the actors. I am hard pressed to single out any favorites but I would have to go with Chris Pine for being respectful to Shatner's Kirk, but maintaining his own take on the character. I had been worried since I had become aware of the movie how they were going to do Kirk, Shatner is so associated with the character in my mind it's like trying to imagine somebody else playing Han Solo or Luke Skywalker. The scientific aspects were great too. I'm an unabashed fan of fake "treknobabble" and the scientific postulating that goes on in sci-fi films like this. The ship is great, with the exception of the engineering sections at some points in the film being "meh", and the bridge has a great updated feel to it. There were a few astronomy things that bugged me but I'll let the review at Bad Astronomy fill you in on that, be warned though it has spoilers. To sum things up and stop boring you, the film is great if your a fan of Star Trek and/or science fiction in general. There are far worse things you could spend ten dollars (or pounds since a good portion of our fanbase appears to be from the U.K.) on this summer.
